Learning Difference at Yantai Huasheng
Fostering an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment
At Yantai Huasheng International School, we understand that every student learns differently, acknowledging the concept of Learning Differences. To address these unique learning styles and needs, we use a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). This system helps us identify which students need extra help through screening and progress monitoring.
Our dedicated team, which includes subject teachers, English Language Support (ELS) teachers, learning support teachers, Response-to-Intervention (RtI) specialists, counselors, nurses, and administrators, collaborates to ensure that every student receives the appropriate level of support. We provide Tier 1 instruction for all students, while also offering Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for those who require additional assistance. This structured approach allows us to tailor our teaching methods to fit each student’s Learning Differences, ensuring that everyone can succeed.
Three Tiers of Support
MTSS operates through a three-tiered system to address varying levels of student need:
Tier 1: Universal Support
At this level, all students receive high-quality, evidence-based instruction in the general classroom. Teachers differentiate their instruction to accommodate the different learning styles of their students, accounting for their Learning Differences. Regular screening and assessments help monitor progress and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Tier 2: Targeted Support
For students who may need additional help, small group interventions are provided. These focused sessions target specific areas where students are struggling due to their Learning Differences. Our ELS teachers, learning support teachers, and RtI specialists collaborate to deliver this extra assistance. Progress is closely monitored, and the support is adjusted as needed.
Tier 3: Intensive Support
This level is reserved for students who require more individualized and intensive interventions. Here, instruction is often one-on-one or in very small groups. Regular monitoring and data-driven adjustments ensure that these students receive the help they need to overcome significant Learning Differences. A multidisciplinary team, including counselors and nurses, works together to offer comprehensive support.
Data-Driven Decision Making
One of the key strengths of the MTSS framework is its reliance on data to inform instruction. By frequently monitoring student progress, we can make informed decisions about which interventions or strategies are working and where adjustments need to be made. This responsive approach ensures that all students, whether they are struggling due to Learning Differences or excelling, receive the right level of challenge and support.
