Annual Creative Writing Contest

On Saturday, March 22, YHIS & YIA hosted the 5th Annual Writing Competition. We had over 90 students join the competition from grades 6-12 in Yantai, both within our school and in our community. They all eagerly participated in the competition to write the best short story they could. 

The participants began with a 45-minute workshop in which they were taught what a short story is, what it includes, and tips on how to write one themselves. They then read through two examples: an old, well-known short story and a modern short story. After that, the writing competition began. The challenging part of the competition was not only coming up with an interesting idea for their story but also ensuring it connected to one of four photos that had to inspire their story. The students creatively wrote short stories over the course of two hours. They turned in their stories to their respective boxes—middle school and high school—and left with anticipation for the final results. It was a wonderful experience for all.
