The Connected Classroom

At YHIS, we desire for our students to be prepared not only for university but for life. As such, our learning environment is centered around authentic real-world tasks and requires a high degree of critical thinking and collaboration, together with high technological competence.

Lower elementary students are learning the foundational skills of using word processing programs and how to use technology to share information for presentation purposes. In upper elementary, students are developing their technology skills further by utilizing technology on a daily basis to conduct mini-research projects and to creatively share their learning with diverse audiences. Additionally, as part of our safety initiative, students are learning how to be model digital citizens and how to be safe online. Finally, students can use the I-Pads to access various programs that will enable them to strengthen their literacy and mathematical skills.

In the Secondary program, this is supported by our 1:1 computing device program, where all students are provided with a tablet and connected to Schoology, a Learning Management System. Through the use of Schoology, students are assigned work and in which they use to submit their work electronically and download class information.
