International Day Postponed, Bus Drill, and After-school Activities

International Day Postponed
International Day that was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 27, has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 1. This adjustment was made to take into account other events within our community and to provide teachers and students with additional time for preparation.

Traditional Chinese Dance Class for YHIS Moms
Thank you to those who have signed up for the dance class. With the new International Day date, the class schedule has also been adjusted and will now run from Friday, September 5, to Friday, October 31 (7 weeks).

The course will be taught by a professional dance instructor provided by YHIS, and will prepare participants to perform during International Day on Saturday, November 1. This beginner-friendly class will introduce traditional dance movements and techniques, while helping participants build confidence for the final performance.

Each class will run for one hour. Space is limited to 20 participants, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested, please sign up by completing the registration form by Friday, August 29.

Class Schedule & Location
Time: 10:00-11:15 on every Friday from September 5 to October 31, except for Oct. 3 and Oct. 10
Location: 2nd-floor Blue Room in the ECC wing
What to wear for practice: Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and thick socks

Performance costumes: Parents will be responsible for purchasing their own costumes.

Bus Evacuation Drill
We have conducted and will conduct our Semester 1 Bus Evacuation Drill on the following dates:
• Secondary: Thursday, August 21, 7:50–8:10 (Buses 4, 5, 6) (completed)
• ECC & Elementary: Tuesday, August 26, 7:50–8:10 (Buses 1, 2, 3)

This drill is for students who use the school bus service. Students who do not ride the school bus will remain with their teachers.

Elementary After-School Activities
The elementary after-school activities will begin on Monday, September 8 and run until Thursday, December 4 (11 weeks). More information will be shared soon.

Elementary MAP Testing Schedule
During the Fall and Spring of each year, K-G5 students are tested in Mathematics, Reading, Language Usage and Science. Students also take the MAP Reading test in January.

The MAP test gives YHIS important data about each student, so it is important that every student take their time and put forth their best effort. Please encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast and get 8-9 hours of sleep before taking the MAP Tests.

The secondary clubs will run from Monday, September 1 through Friday, December 5. Students will sign up for clubs in the coming weeks.
