The Chinese New Year break starts from Monday, February 16, and runs until Friday, February 27. The school resumes on Monday, March 2. Have a wonderful holiday with your family.
China Day
Chinese Spring Festival is one of the most important holidays in China. As a school, we would like to celebrate this time together. YHIS China Day will be on Friday, February 13. The Chinese Language Department is planning various engaging hands-on activities for all students in the morning.
In the afternoon, from 1:30 to 3:20 pm, we will host a China Day Concert Performance in the theater. Students will showcase traditional Chinese songs and dances to celebrate the festival. All parents are welcome to join in the celebration. A dress rehearsal for all student performers is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Transportation will be provided for performing students on that day.
Shark Times January, 2026
The Student Newspaper Club has published a newspaper for the month of January. The student journalists have worked hard to keep you informed about what happened in January and to deliver exciting stories and interviews to you.
Math Kangaroo Competition
YHIS/YIA will be hosting a Math Kangaroo Competition on Saturday, March 28. Math Kangaroo is the largest international mathematical competition in the world. The competition tests logical combination, not just memorization of formulas. Detailed information will be shared closer to the date.
2026 Spring Art Competition
We are excited to announce that YHIS is having a Spring Art Competition. Every student will be given a chance to create the best artwork to be displayed in different offices, including Mr. Miller’s office. Participants can choose their own themes, but themes must be appropriate. We accept only 2D artwork for submission, and digital artwork is not permitted. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 13. Please submit your artwork to the art classrooms (Elementary 317 or Secondary 417).
Mr. Miller and a panel of teacher & parent judges will choose the best eight art pieces. ECC artworks will not be judged. However, all artwork submitted in the competition will be displayed around the school. There will be two pieces of art chosen from each age category (see categories below).
Elementary students will have class time to work on their artwork, and submissions of artwork completed at home will not be permitted. Middle and High School students are encouraged to meet with Mrs. Zhong if they would like some basic art supplies or help with their artwork at home.
If you have any questions about the competition, please email bonnie.zhong@yhischina.com.
Age Categories:
Lower Elementary (G1-2)
