Aerobic Dance Class for Moms
To continue fostering connection within our school community, we are excited to offer a free Aerobic Dance Class for YHIS & YIA moms. This six-week course will run from Tuesday, September 1 to Tuesday, October 20, every Tuesday from 8:20 to 9:20 am, with no class on September 29 and October 6.

The class will once again be taught by Mrs. BoKyoung Lee, a professional dance instructor. Designed for beginners, the class will feature simple and fun movements—including aerobics, Zumba, and rhythm boxing—to promote both health and confidence. No prior dance experience is required—just bring comfortable clothes, some energy, and a smile!

Class Details
• Dates: Every Tuesday from September 1 – October 20 (6 weeks) except for September 29 & October 6
• Time: 8:20 –9:20 am
• Location: 5th-floor Indoor PE Space
• What to bring: Water bottle, comfortable clothes, yoga mat, indoor athletic shoes

Space is limited to 25 participants. If you are interested, please sign up by completing the registration form by Friday, August 28.

Once the registration closes, participants will be randomly selected, and those selected will be invited to join a WeChat group.

Attendance Policy
Parents should send an email to attendance@yhischina.com by 8:00 am on the day their child will be unable to attend school. The specific reason for the absence should also be given at this time.

Students should not be sent to school if they have:

1. Severe colds
2. Fever (above 99.86°F/37.7°C)
3. Nausea or vomiting
4. Diarrhea
5. Undetermined rash or spots
6. Lice
   Parents should not give medicine in the morning to reduce fever, and then send their child to school.

If a student is sent home with fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, the student may not return to school the next day.

Students may return to school:

• Nasal discharge or phlegm is clear
• No fever for 24 hours (no medication to reduce fever for 24 hours)
• Has not vomited or had diarrhea for 24 hours

School QR Codes for Payment
Parents can pay different kinds of fees for their child through two school QR codes. Please refer to the table below for more information. Our finance staff will take care of your requests within one working day.

MAP® Testing
As part of the LifePlus network of schools, YHIS is conducting the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests as a form of standardized testing from Monday, August 31, to Friday, September 18. The MAP test is designed for students from Kindergarten to 10th Grade. Different grades will test at different times. Students take the MAP test in the fall, winter, and spring each school year.

Kindergarten and Elementary students will take the test on school computers or iPads. Secondary students will use their laptops and will be guided to download MAP testing software, which locks other applications during testing. While a laptop computer is highly recommended, secondary students may use a tablet, but a keyboard is required for testing.

MAP tests determine your child’s instructional level and measure academic growth, both throughout the school year and from year to year, in the areas of Math, Language, Reading, and Science. MAP tests are unique in that they are adaptive tests. That means that the test becomes more difficult with the more questions your child answers correctly. When your child incorrectly answers a question, the test becomes easier. Therefore, your child will take a test specifically catered to his or her learning level.

Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, teachers use this information to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics. They then plan their instruction accordingly so that students learn optimally.

There is no additional studying that students need to put in for this test. Rather, the test serves as an assessment tool for where a student’s levels are currently. The school is excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement.

Applying for or Extending Residence Permit
The school provides assistance in applying for or extending residence permits for students over 18 and for a parent whose spouse has returned to their home country. If one of your family members falls into one of these two categories and their residence permit is set to expire before February 28, 2027, please inform the school by completing this survey by Friday, August 28. We will follow up with those who complete the survey to start the application process.

Parent ID Card
Parents who drop off and pick up their child may enter the campus during drop-off and pick-up times. The guards will let you in when you present your parent ID card. To obtain a card, please refer to registration instruction and apply for a parent ID card.

For campus access outside of drop-off/pick-up times, please continue to contact Parent Liaisons Mrs. Jenny Kim or Mrs. Winnie Zhang for approval.

Lunch Menu Updates
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the school lunch experience, we are transitioning from country-themed menus to a more flexible, choice-based system. With this new approach, students will have greater variety and more choice in their meals.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, students will choose four dishes from seven available options. Each meal will also include rice, soup, kimchi, seasonal fruit, and other standard side dishes. On Thursdays, students will choose one of three special meal options, served with a beverage and the usual side dishes.

To begin, we will pilot this new system with a two-week rotating menu. Based on feedback and any necessary adjustments, we plan to expand it to a four-week cycle in the future.

Elementary After-School Activities
The elementary after-school activities will begin on Monday, August 31 and run until Thursday, November 26. Rosters for assigned activities will be posted on ClassDojo soon.

Free Dental and Vision Checks
The Education Bureau has been working with private hospitals to provide free dental and vision screenings for schools in the KaiFaQu. As such, our ECC/elementary students will have a chance to take a free dental and vision check at school. The dental check will be conducted by Yantai Stomatologic Hospital (烟台口腔医院), The vision check will be conducted by MingRun Ophthamologic Hospital (明润眼科医院). The screenings will be conducted in the morning on Wednesday, August 26, and each one will take about 10 minutes. If you do NOT your child to receive this service, please inform us by completing this survey by Monday, August 24.

Secondary Parent Open House
We warmly invite you to join us for the Secondary Parent Open House this Friday, from 9:30 am to 12:10 pm, in the 4th-floor auditorium. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn more about our secondary program.
