No Uniform This Friday
This Friday is the last Friday of the month, which is normally the day staff are allowed to dress in jeans and staff shirts. Mr. Miller would like to extend this to students this month. Therefore, Friday will be a uniform-free day for all students. However, students still need to dress appropriately.

Medication Administration Form
According to the school policy, students are not allowed to carry their own medicines unless they are for emergency conditions such as diabetes or severe allergic reactions.

If parents would like their child to take any medication at school, they can send a small amount, which will be stored in the Nurse Office for their child to use, and they must complete the Medication Administration Permission Form. Any daily or prescription medication to be taken by students during school hours must be clearly labeled with the child's name and be brought to the Nurse Office upon arrival at school. It should be in the original package and be labeled with the name of the medicine and instructions in English. It must also be accompanied by the Medication Administration Permission Form.

It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of the times the medication is to be taken and to go to the Nurse Office at the proper time. The Nurse Office staff will administer medications to students only according to the parent’s instruction.

Attendance Policy
Parents should send an email to attendance@yhischina.com by 8:00 am on the day their child will be absent, arrive late, or leave school early. This includes absences for any reason, such as trips to the Entry Exit Bureau. Please include the specific reason for the absence, late arrival, or early dismissal in the email.

Students should not be sent to school if they have:

1. Severe colds
2. Fever (above 99.86°F/37.7°C)
3. Nausea or vomiting
4. Diarrhea
5. Undetermined rash or spots
6. Lice
   Parents should not give medicine in the morning to reduce fever, and then send their child to school.

If a student is sent home with fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, the student may not return to school the next day.

Students may return to school:

• Nasal discharge or phlegm is clear
• No fever for 24 hours (no medication to reduce fever for 24 hours)
• Has not vomited or had diarrhea for 24 hours

Talent Show Auditions
Our students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in the theater this October. Selected students will be invited to perform in the final show. To participate, students will need to submit a registration form and an audition video.

Applications will become available by the end of this week. We look forward to celebrating the wide variety of talents in our school community!

ECC/Elementary:
• Show Date: Friday, October 16 at 14:00
• Registration: Students must submit a registration form and audition video to Ms. Ma by Friday, September 18.
• Registration Forms: Available during music class.
• Audition Results: Wednesday, September 23
• Dress Rehearsal: Monday, October 12 after school. A school bus will be provided.

Secondary:
• Show Date: Wednesday, October 28 at 15:00
• Registration: Students must submit a registration form to Ms. Figueroa by Friday, October 9.
• Registration Forms: Available by the end of this week outside the music room (Room 420).
• Audition Results: Wednesday, October 14
• Dress Rehearsal: Monday, October 26 after school (to be confirmed). A school bus for after-school activities will be available.

Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid Autumn Festival is approaching. To celebrate this traditional festival, YHIS elementary through high school who are taking Chinese classes will make snow skin mooncakes (ready to eat mooncakes) during Chinese class on Friday, September 18. This hands-on activity will give students an opportunity to learn about the cultural traditions and significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival while enjoying a festive treat together.

ECC Ice Cream Social
We are excited to invite you to our first ECC Parent Event of this school year. Please join us for a time of connection as we come together as an ECC community at 2:30 pm in the Courtyard this Friday. Before we gather, we wanted to share a few helpful details to make the event run smoothly:

Location & Building Access
Our social will take place in the Courtyard. Since elementary classes will still be in session, we ask that you enjoy the courtyard activities and only enter the building if you need to use the restroom.

Restroom Information
For everyone's safety and in keeping with our child protection policies, we ask that all adults use the adult restrooms located next to the elevators in the East and West Wings. Please do not accompany other children to the restroom, even with parental permission.

Dismissal Reminder
If your child will be going home with you instead of taking the bus, please let their teacher know in advance and check in before you leave together.

We can't wait to celebrate with you and enjoy some delicious ice cream! Thank you for helping us create a safe and joyful event for everyone.

ECC Parent Open Class Day
On Thursday, September 24, the ECC invites you to visit and observe your child's class in session. From 8:15 to 9:15 am, chairs will be set up in the back of the room so you can sit and watch the morning English Language class.

If you have children in two ECC rooms, you are welcome to move back and forth between the rooms. Thank you for your support of the ECC, and we hope to see you there.

ECC and Elementary IXL Policy
IXL is an excellent tool to enhance your student's skills in math and Language arts. Teachers use IXL for students who may need extra practice in a skill or to practice a skill that is currently being taught. A teacher may encourage students to practice at home, but it is not homework and therefore not mandatory that the student work on IXL at home. YHIS leaves it up to parent discretion if you want your student practicing with IXL.
Every teacher will input the newest MAP results into IXL creating a MAP skills plan. In addition, a teacher may choose specific skills a student needs to practice. Once again, any practice at home is up to the parent.

Some best practices for doing IXL at home are:

• Set a time limit. 10-20 minutes is a nice range instead of reaching 100%.
• If percentages are preferred, aim for 80%-90%.

Often, a student can become frustrated and discouraged when an answer is given incorrectly on IXL. IXL uses a smartscore system where questions become more difficult the closer to 100%, and student scores drop more the closer a student is to 100%. The suggestions above can alleviate the frustration.

Secondary Fall Camps & Parent Briefing
The Middle School and High School Fall Camps are scheduled for September 23-24. Both camps will be held at Mohota Town in Penglai, but they will run separately.

A permission form for the Fall Camp has been home with your child. Please ensure that the signed form is submitted to their advisory teacher by this week.

For the camps, photocopies of student passport ID pages are required. However, since the admissions office already has these copies on file, there is no need to resubmit them. Additionally, Middle School students are required to submit a photocopy of the passport page showing their most recent entry stamp.

We invite parents to an online parent briefing (Zoom Link) on Monday, September 21, at 10:00 am. Our camp coordinator, Dr. Diana Holden, will share important details about the schedule, preparation, and what to expect. This is a great opportunity to have your questions answered.
