Voices of reflection and courage
TEDx at Yantai Huasheng International School

At the recent TEDx event hosted by Yantai Huasheng International School, students took the stage to share thoughtful, challenging, and forward-looking ideas on success, life, and the future.

Jacob Y. (G10) opened the event by questioning one of the most deeply rooted beliefs among students today—that university is the only path to success. Through personal reflection and global statistics, he highlighted that while higher education can be valuable, it is not the only route to a stable and fulfilling life. By sharing real-world examples and alternative career paths, he encouraged his peers to look beyond societal expectations and pursue futures aligned with their passions, reminding the audience that success is not defined by a single destination, but by the choices individuals make along the way.

George P. (G7) offered a deeply reflective perspective on life by exploring the often-avoided topic of death. Introducing the idea of memento mori, he explained how acknowledging life’s limits can bring clarity, purpose, and urgency to how we live each day. Drawing from personal observations and psychological insights, he emphasized that true meaning is found not in distant achievements, but in present moments, authentic relationships, and the legacy we leave in others. His message reframed death not as something to fear, but as a powerful reminder to live fully and intentionally.

Selina J. (G7) addressed one of the most relevant topics of today—artificial intelligence—and challenged the common narrative that AI leads to less thinking. Acknowledging both the risks and opportunities, she argued that the real question is not whether AI is good or bad, but how individuals choose to use it. Through a compelling analogy, she described AI as a tool that amplifies the user, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning by using AI to enhance, rather than replace, their thinking. Looking ahead, she highlighted that human qualities such as creativity, empathy, and judgment will remain essential in an AI-driven world.

Together, these student voices captured the spirit of TEDx—curiosity, courage, and a willingness to challenge assumptions—offering meaningful insights into how we learn, live, and shape the future. We are proud of our students for their insights, confidence, and courage in sharing ideas that inspire others.
