MUNiSQ XVI
Solutions for the Intractable
Our MUN club recently returned from MUNiSQ XVI, where they debated with students from eight other schools. This year’s theme, Solutions for the Intractable, challenged participants to deliberate on a wide range of pressing global issues, from microplastics in the ocean to the crisis in Lebanon. Our students actively collaborated and argued for the best solutions.
YHIS was represented in five of the six committees, where our delegates did an excellent job giving speeches and offering suggestions to make the resolutions stronger. The conference also provided an excellent opportunity for students to form new connections with peers from across China and reconnect with friends from previous conferences.
Ian Chan, a 10th grader, shared his experience: "I felt that MUNiSQ was very fun because I could battle others in debate, and I even had a personal nemesis throughout the event whom I constantly opposed. I felt included in the discussions and was even interviewed for the MUNiSQ newspaper. In the end, my team and I successfully passed our resolution and many amendments to help address the crisis in Lebanon. I would love to go again next year!"
Next year we will have the honor of hosting the LifePlus spring semester conference, MUNTAI IV. We are looking forward to seeing all our sister schools and the schools that have taken the opportunity to join us. It is always a rewarding challenge for students to work together on meaningful global issues. Events like these allow students to Learn, Love, and Lead in a personal way.
